Celebrating the Holidays in New Orleans with Old Absinthe House and Belle Époque

String lights and palm trees. Mulled wine and 70-degree afternoon. Yeah, we know the hot glue on our Thanksgiving Day at the Racetrack hats hasn’t dried yet, but we’re still getting into the New Orleans Christmas spirit. Read on for a few of our favorite ways to celebrate the Yuletide season.

Papa Noel at Old Absinthe House. Friday, December 20th

Now a 16-year strong celebration, Papa Noel has become an Old Absinthe House tradition. The already high-profile Friday lunch at Galatoire’s is even more of a to-do on the Friday preceding Christmas for New Orleans attorneys and businesspeople. After dining, revelers pack into the Old Absinthe House for a visit from Papa Noel—and sometimes a few of his elves—who passes out bells and encourages imbibement.

Celebration in the Oaks at city park. all december long.

Celebration in the Oaks is an excellent way to spend some time outdoors in City Park during the mild New Orleans winter. This month-long celebration is not just limited to sparkling oak trees—there are some impressive light sculptures to be seen as well!

Reveillon Dinners. all december long.

Reveillon dinner was originally eaten at 2am by the Creole inhabitants of New Orleans in the 1800s. Today it is celebrated a bit differently, with New Orleans restaurants offering hyper-seasonal menus for the month of December. Belle Époque is participating in this year’s Reveillon celebration and Chef Hayley’s duck leg confit is not to be missed!
